Cut Flowers...SO PURDY!

Phlox pilosa, Zizia aurea, &
Nepeta 'Walker's Low' (a cultivar)
Bringing the beauty of Iowa indoors with cut native wildflowers and grasses is simple and another exciting way to explore one's environment.

Here's how to go about it:

On a dry day, enter a flower garden, prairie, savanna or woodland setting with desirable vegetation. Cut folliage, flowers w/ or w/out stalks, and maybe combine with some grasses. Arrange into a water holding device and enjoy!

The most unique quality of these arrangements is that no two sets can be the same. They will all be different depending on the time of year you harvest as well as the prairie/place from which you pick! Be sure never to harvest all the flower heads, as that might lead to overharvesting of the seed and a decrease in the population! Take only what you "need." Remember, other living things depend on these flowers for their well being, too!

Tradescantia bracteata, Zizia aurea, Anemone canadensis, & Silphium laciniatum
I CAN'T WAIT FOR A LITTLE WARMER WEATHER! THE SUMMER BLOOMERS ARE ON THEIR WAY, and some of them make great DRIED, CUT FLOWERS(longer shelf life), too!!!
